Is steamprofiler.org a scam?

No, and the way to check that is not to take this answer for it. The site has no sign-in, so there is no password to lose; it never asks for a Steam Web API key; it sells nothing, runs no ads and holds no giveaway; and it only reads what a profile has already made public through Steam's own API. Both halves are public at https://github.com/GustavoHSCruz/SteamProfiler.Front and https://github.com/GustavoHSCruz/SteamProfiler.Api, so every claim on this page can be checked against the code that runs. It is one person's hobby project, run on a server at home, and it is not connected to Valve.

Does steamprofiler.org ask you to sign in to Steam?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no sign-in on this site and no route that accepts one: not a password, not a Steam Guard code, not Steam OpenID, not a QR code. A lookup needs a vanity name, a steamID64 or a profile URL and nothing else. Any page claiming to be this site and asking for a Steam password is not this site.

Does steamprofiler.org ask for your Steam Web API key?

Accepted Answer

Never. The site queries Steam with the owner's own key, which stays in the server's environment and is never sent to the browser. You are never asked for a key of your own, and you should not give your Steam Web API key to any website.

Where does the data on steamprofiler.org come from?

Accepted Answer

From the official Steam Web API and the Steam storefront, live, at the moment of the lookup, and cached for about fifteen minutes. Only what a profile makes public is readable: if a profile has Game details set to private, Steam returns nothing and the page says so.

Does steamprofiler.org trade, sell or handle Steam items?

Accepted Answer

No. It reads and it draws, and that is the whole of it. It never proposes a trade, never lists anything for sale, never holds an item and never takes a payment. It does read a public trading-card inventory, the same way it reads a public game list, so a page can say what finishing a badge would cost; an inventory set to private is not read at all. It sells nothing, runs no ads, gives nothing away and holds no giveaway, raffle or vote.

What does steamprofiler.org store about the people who use it?

Accepted Answer

No record of who looked up which profile. There are no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics; addresses are kept only as a salted hash for rate limiting, and the access log has the address stripped out.
